Band of the Day app developer 955 Dreams has secured US$3.25 million in seed funding, which it will use to build more apps, expand onto other mobile operating systems and grow its international business.

The company has launched three iOS titles using its own publishing platform since 2010. The History of Jazz, On the Way to Woodstock and Band of the Day have all been selected as App of the Week by Apple.

The investment is being led by the seed fund 500 Startups and mobile technology venture capital firm m8 Capital. Kapor Capital, Felicis Ventures and CrunchFund have also contributed. 500 Startups’ Dave McClure will join the 955 Dreams board as part of the funding agreement.

Band of the Day provides bios and reviews of new bands and has added more than half a million users in the past four months. It was runner-up in iPhone App of the Year in 2011 and made the best Apps of 2011 list in the New York Times. 955 Dreams has launched an iPad version of Band of the Day to coincide with the funding announcement.

"There is an absolute and unrelenting focus on maintaining a high level of quality throughout the product and ensuring that the experience for the user is not compromised in any way," said CEO and founder Kiran Bellubbi.
