Nuance revamps developer programme
Speech technology company Nuance Communications announced enhancements to its developer programme, now called NDEV Mobile, which it says features new services that “make it easier than ever for developers to voice-enable apps with Nuance’s industry-leading speech technology.”
The programme now has three tiers, ‘silver,’ ‘gold,’ and ‘emerald,’ intended to give “more choice and flexibility” in how developers bring products using Nuance’s Dragon technology to market.
The Dragon SDK also gains support for Windows Phone 7 in addition to Android and iOS, as well as an HTTP web services interface.
Silver is the company’s base partner level, and provides access to text-to-speech capabilities in more than 30 languages. Gold offers access to SSL data encryption, “more deployment flexibility,” and enhanced support.
Emerald is intended to “meet the unique needs of NDEV Mobile community members looking for a truly differentiated speech experience on their apps.” This level provides access to an “array of customisation and service options.”
Nuance also announced support for eight additional languages: “Canadian French, Americas Spanish, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Korean, Taiwan Mandarin, and Cantonese” – in addition to its existing portfolio. Additional languages will be added through the year.
The Dragon Mobile SDK is available for iOS 4.0, Android 2.1 and higher and Windows Phone 7.1.
The company said it has voice-enabled “some of the market’s most popular apps” through its developer programme, including Price Check by Amazon, Dictionary.com, Yellow Pages, “and many others.”
