YouTube trumpets 10% mobile downloads

LIVE FROM HUAWEI GLOBAL MOBILE BROADBAND FORUM 2011: Francisco Varela, director of Global Platform Partnerships at YouTube, today said that more than 10 percent of downloads from the service are now made from mobile devices. In addition to viewing, subscribers are also using mobiles to create: more than two hours of video is uploaded from devices every minute. Varela said that the company is working to optimise use of the mobile network, for example offering different default quality depending on infrastructure type.
